RIP Elisabeth Sladen

Elisabeth Sladen dies, age 63.

Oh I am so, so sad to hear this. Fuck, I have no words. Words are trite. My auntie is dying of cancer. I had no idea that Elisabeth Sladen was facing the same disease and OH GOD, how horrible.

I can't tell you what Sarah Jane Smith meant to me when I was growing up. Tom Baker was my Doctor, but Sarah Jane Smith was my modern Earth-day companion. Of all the companions, she was at the top of the Earth Girls Club. I loved her more than Rose, more than Martha, more than any companion outside of Leela. She was spunky, playful, gorgeous, stylish, adorable, and they let her grow up and she got to have kids and be her own damned character.

Elisabeth Sladen was, of course, more than her work. I feel so much for her family. What a terrible, horrible loss. It was too soon to lose her.

I can't believe it either. I only came to know her as Sarah-Jane in the new series but she was so loveable there. I did not know she was ill. It is a tragedy.

Oh, do yourself a favour, watch some Fourth Doctor episodes with Lis and Tom. That way, you get the best Doctor and the best Companion of all time at the same time.
