The creepiest nightmare...

I had the creepiest nightmare during my nap...
I had this dream that people were being hurt by these strange plants. And then their biology started changing so that after a while, these blooms burst from fold-out-cavities in their chests. It didn't kill them. They stayed alive as long as they fulfilled the parasitical plant's biological imperative. They ended up giving birth (via egg chute that folded out of the pelvis) to these writhing creatures. And these creatures were poisonous too, and they were fine, as long as they were able to live happily and not be hurt. Otherwise they defended themselves quite harshly (biting or something).
And at first everyone was afraid of the parasites, but some people, after giving birth to some, wanted to protect their "offspring". Even though the process of being infected by the parasitical plant changed their biology hugely and stuff. In the dream, my sister got infected and I was doing what I could to guide her through the biological process.
Lemme see... the stages... there were Fold-out blooms. Then you had to find someone else who was blooming and was a different colour bloom of a different sex. They were a profusion of stamens, sort of like an Australian tree bloom or one of those sticky nectar plants that fold up on an insect once the insect gets stuck. Then the blooms sort of - touched each other. Just the tips, they cross-polinated from the tips of the stameny things. They were prehensile and everything. Then they shot back into the body, and one became pregnant with the eventual pod that came out.
One had to care for the pod, I think, or become sick from the failed biological imperative. Once the pod was grown, I think you were okay. It's an incredibly creepy concept, really. I mean - you're forced to care for this alien thing. And in some situations, you have feelings for this thing. And if you don't, you die. How horrible!!
Of course, it could be latent fears of accidentally getting pregnant springing up in my subconscious. But I really like babies, so I wouldn't equate them to a mind-fucking horrible parasite of inexplicable evil.

Date: 2011-01-23 01:40 pm (UTC)I might write it, then turn it into a graphic novel and have my sister illustrate it (if she has the time).
