Looking purely at what gets posted on Jezebel, it's often a one-sided debate

I wasn't aware that we needed to have a debate about whether or not consent ruins the fun of sex, or whether we should call it a "decision" in order to avoid killing the boners of young men studying abroad. In fact, I'm pretty sure the only "debate" required is saying, "no, that's stupid, consent is a decision, you're a douchebag, and you don't know French women as well as you think. P.S. get your hand off my ass." But no, apparently we're just argumentative harpies who won't bother having a reasonable discussion with a sensible, well-spoken young man.

Read the guy's article expecting something somewhat in the grey zone, where it isn't immidiately obvious what kind of shit it's about, but damn! Just fucking damn! What was that guy thinking? What was she thinking putting it up? What the fucking hell? Did the guy lose his sarcasm detector when that woman friend of his "suggested" getting his intended drunk? Because I can easily imagine someone giving that as toungue-in-cheek advice, and the way he described it I would have assumed she figured he needed drinking to loosen up and fit with the French way of courting. And he seemed to basically miss the point big time that they were courting, agressively so yes, but consent didn't seem to be a non-issue for the "empowered" French women and I don't see how calling it something else is any better, and I could go on forever with every logic fail that guy committed! It's just one huge fest of jumping to the conclusions he likes the best and praising what he sees of a culture he doesn't seem to understand.

Now, I would generally think it's good to have an idea of how some rape apologists think in order to combat that type of thinking and finding ways of reasoning with people thinking that way. But there needs to be some sort of reasoning in that thinking. Otherwise we're just reading hurtful bullshit from someone we wouldn't have been able to reason with regardless, unless we learn illogical logic.

I would get a drink after reading this, but I have to be a peak performance driver tomorrow if I want to make it to my brother's place alive. Will settle for pancakes.
