The Last Airbender is REALLY BAD. Like, I knew it would be bad, but I never realised how SPECTACULARLY BAD it would be. What makes it worse is that the cartoon is so friggin' BRILLIANT.

WOW. Just... WOW.

On the upside, I now have another movie to MST with BarryDennen12.

There's a video making the rounds on the internet that shows an interviewer talking to people coming out of that movie. Every. Single. Person said "It sucks".

That's a shame because it looks like it might have a dragon in it.

It should have a dragon; a very major plot point revolved around it in the TV show. But who knows what the movie did. I haven't seen it, and have only heard it was bad.

I have heard it's a good movie on its own, just... not Avatar.

I'm boycotting it for RaceFail! So even if it was good, I wouldn't have seen it. But the fact that it's bad just gives a lot of people who are boycotting a bit of a 'thank god' vibe too. Since it'll deter other people from financially supporting Shyamalan's 'Descent into Awful.'

Oh, I didn't pay to see it. I would never pay to see something so racefaily! I don't know how they managed to get such a respectful, beautiful, textured, detailed and thoroughly Asian story and turn it into "White boy saves the world", but Shyamalan did it.

Your icon... There's a thing in music called a "loose rhyme". A lot of musos use loose rhymes cause we're lazy. In a song, I could rhyme Orange with Sporan. Then I would draw a sporan next to that poor crying orange!! Poor orange!

I am race!fail boycotting it, but my white male coworkers who were not swayed by my persuasive argument against it (and in fact just came short on claiming I was racist for making a deal about race...sigh) went anyway and said it was horrible. So watching the movie was punishment to those who were ignoring race!fail. Seems about fitting.

As I said to moonvoice, I didn't pay to see it. And no, nobody took me to see it. Yes.

I wanted to know the racefail involved so that when I argue with people (which I undoubtedly will, considering I've been following the issue since it started), I'll "know thy enemy" as it were.

Oh, I understand the spectacle of it. Like a giant, agonizingly slow train wreck with bad 3D. I watched Land of the Lost. Every agonizing second of it just for the No-they-didn't-THEY-DID aspect. I am just amused by my coworkers who spent months trying to tell me they simply got white actors because they were the best talent and stuff and everything else just to be proved wrong at every turn.

Okay, I can ignore the BAD CASTING choices. I can, really. I can deal with BAD special effects. Didn't bother with the 3D version because the glasses thingies don't fit over my real "will walk into walls without them" glasses.

I can't ignore bad acting, bad writing, and taking five minutes of interpretive dance moves for Aang do do any bending.

I only went because my younger sister didn't want to go alone, and she spend the first half of the movie muttering "That isn't how you say that" every time the characters names were mispronounced.

Also ... Katana had one line that she said over and over and over and over and ... Can we hire someone to spank M. Night? Anyone who claims to be a fan of the original work damned well should have done a better job of turning it into a movie!

I can't ignore the bad casting choices. It's why I didn't buy a ticket to see how bad it was. I decided to vote with my money. Not saying you're wrong for seeing it or anything, I just couldn't personally bring myself to give M. Night any of my money. It's nice you took your sister to see it, though.

Ahahaha, I think you mean Katara. What's sad is the kids could have done passable jobs, I think, if MNS had just *directed* them a little! And he could have fit HEAPS of good stuff in if he cut out all the AWKWARD PAUSES.

Oh my GOD. It's like they were pausing to provide people spaces to riff the fuckin' thing!!

Katana, Katara, in the case of this movie, what's the difference? It isn't like they were saying anyone else's name correctly. ;)

Okay, so it was a typo. heh heh!

Maybe they were leaving pauses for people to riff on it. But honestly, I don't think even MST3K would touch this bastardized excuse for a live action big screen adaptation of a cartoon. Hollywood managed not to entirely fuck up Transformers or G.I.Joe, you think with Avatar: The Last Airbender being *current* rather than having a whole new generation of fans to tell the story for, they would have tried a little harder to Get. It. Right.

Maybe they'll do what they did for the Incredible Hulk movie, ignore the first one and start over entirely, with a different director.
