Reading this made me tear up. Well actually your last post about Melma made me cry. Long story short, I don't usually live with my parents, but I have been for over a year and I have a 19 year old cat named China who is living her with me. And she was sick last December and my father pretty much made me think he can be the biggest ass ever when he was more concerned about the state of his carpets than my cat and told me on Dec. 24, Christmas eve day that if China did not get better that day, he expected me to have her euthanized (how do you spell that anyway?). She was vomiting and diarrheaing for a few days, the vet gave me meds to give her, she got better. But Dad, I do love him, but what an ASS, told me that he didn't think she was going to recover and it would be kind to put her down because he thought she was suffering. NO, she wasn't. He did not want his Christmas holiday with his other daughter and son in law (I swear he has a man crush on my sister's husband) and granddaughter ruined by my cat. The solution? remove the cat. I am STILL angry about this.
And she is healthy and well today, and still old. The only times China gets sick are when he sneaks her people food, like steak. that stuff is too rich for her system. Hell, it is for mine too. The saddest thing about this is that he likes China, he just only likes her when she is not making a mess of his carpets and his sneaking her people food made her sick.
Having an elderly cat is difficult. I worry a LOT, but that is how it is.
*sends hugs your way, I am thinking of you and Melma* <3, some days my cats are the VERY best part of my life, and you know, I appreciate them.
