Seriously. How bad ass, how AWESOME, how kick ass is Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor? What piece is more evocative of evil than that song? (Probably not what Bach intended, but what the fuck).

Seriously. That motherfucker, after he sat down and nutted out that one, what did he do for the rest of the day?

"Well, I just wrote one of the most awesome, unforgettable pieces in the entirety of human history. I'm going to have a German sausage, now."

I'm figuring out how to play it and man... just MAN. What a piece of music.

That's the thing. If good old Mendelssohn hadn't come along and resurrected JS Bach's works, including that particular Tocatta and Fugue, it would have remained forgettable. Poor Bach didn't get much recognition in his day. Wrote like a slave, got paid only slightly better than one, raised his sons to be just like him (only no one cared)...that sort of thing.

It's kind of like Pachelbel's canon. Nothing special, no one gave a shit, and then someone in the 1940's discovered the manuscript and it exploded into being one of the most influential chord progressions in Western popular music. Not to mention the most frequently performed wedding prelude. I'll see you in hell, Pachelbel...

Oh my god, I love Toccata <3 (Two Cs, one T, by the way >.> ) ...I also can't listen to it without visualising Fantasia, but DAMN it's amazing!

Can't say I've ever envisioned evil because of it, though XD

I also think it is an awesome piece, but have never for a moment thought it was evocative of evil.

As a late primary school or so aged kid, I thought the Sky guitar version was the greatest piece of music ever.

I'm figuring out the Tocatta. I got to the fugue and thought, "Fuck that shit." Maybe one day I'll figure that out. I know I can do the Tocatta if I work at it. But the fugue just makes my ass open and my brain dribble out my ears.

Isn't it the way with so many talented dudes? Van Gogh, he's another one of those.

Maybe I've watched too many B-Grade movies that use church organs with lightning bolts then, I dunno. Or Gothic movies with vampires and shit. I just hear Toccata in Dm and think of castles and lightning and rain and gargoyles and shit.

Hehe, don't worry. I was just telling a friend how every time I go to write 'necessary', I write it 'neccesary'.

I love that piece. The Requiem Mass in D by Mozart is pretty kickass too.

I was a 12 year old band fag when I asked for and got E Power Biggs performing Bach's Toccata and Fugue D Minor for Christmas. Sure, there were other works on that album, but nothing comes close to the intricacy, the powerful delicacy of this master work. Lying on the floor with my headphones on, listening to those melodies and counter melodies dancing with each other... man. What an amazing piece. Loved it "Fantasia," too.

Back was the mack Daddy, all right. I feel sorry for Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach (CPE Bach) and Johann Christian. How'd you like to fill those shoes?

I'm going to add to the chorus of "awesome but not evil" :)

But then, my introduction to it was Sky's prog-rock cover!
