Scotland's Got Talent.
Apr. 14th, 2009 11:55 pmThis woman, a powerful, tenacious spirit, showed the doubters what for. Half of me is thrilled that she got to do that, the other half is sad and angry that they treated her so bloody horribly when she stepped out, just because she's a normal size, wears her age with pride, is not the idea of a successful woman of her age and is not model beautiful.
I hope this taught a lot of people a lesson. Singing is not looks. Singing is not a package to sell to young kids for dollars and cents. Singing is the purest form of communication, a moment where the spirit flows directly from one heart and into another. Her voice gave me chills, not because she was technically brilliant, but because in that moment, she was FUCKING TRIUMPHANT. A woman they thought was quaint, and odd, and strange, and ridiculous showed them the fire within, and it was absolutely wonderful.
I know Simon is a keen businessman, and he sees another opera-singing ex-salesman in this woman. I hope the industry doesn't hurt her. It can be so fucking cruel, as her first minutes on stage revealed.

Date: 2009-04-14 04:58 pm (UTC)The patronising-at-best, scornful-at-worst looks on people's faces when they saw her (and I bet she really was beautiful as a younger woman) and then there was that voice and she FUCKING OWNED THEM.
Shit, I hate this programme and never saw a single full episode of it or any of its variants... and I'm sat here just... GOOD FUCKING GIRL.

Date: 2009-04-14 05:18 pm (UTC)Actually, ignore me. I'm clearly in that sort of a mood. I'll go and type up some Finest Kind (have not forgotten it!) and eat my dinner!
How are you, my darling?

Date: 2009-04-14 05:28 pm (UTC)You have to send me some more. I was a bit distracted with Swancon but I have all the time in the world now. :) Lay it on me!
I'm really good. I got lots of recognition for my artwork at the sci-fi convention, I made lots of new friends and I had heaps of fun. It was better than I thought it would be and I'm so glad I went.
Still having issues with depression cause my Mum and Dad are in Malta for the now. I'm contemplating writing a story just for myself and nobody else, a story where I get to have a dream adventure. I think that'd be fun and it'd get my mind off of being sad.
We should totally voice chat some time, cause my parents aren't here and I can have mics and speakers going and it wouldn't piss anyone off. :)

Date: 2009-04-14 08:26 pm (UTC)Exactly! You said it so much better than I could. She completely owned who she was and laid it out there, and she blew everyone away. I'm so happy for her.

Date: 2009-04-15 12:04 pm (UTC)Have you ever heard a song or a voice where when you hear it, your world just narrows down to that one thing?
It's only happened once before, the first time I ever heard Idina Menzel sing Defying Gravity on the Wicked soundtrack.
Susan Boyle has done it again today. Amazing. AMAZING.
