I just realised that I have BitTorrent and a bunch of downloaded episodes of things on the HD of my laptop that is currently going in for repairs.

Do you think I'll get in trouble?! :(

Nope. My PC was fixed a while ago and the repairman noticed that there was a LOT of media on there..he didn't say anything though.

Besides, I don't think they want to know what people store on their computers.. :P

No. It's not the repair person's responsibility to report that kind of stuff (if it was, they probably wouldn't have enough time to do their actual repair work!). They're not going to care. I've had computers repaired several times, all of them with downloaded music and videos, and it's never drawn comment!

Besides, BitTorrent itself isn't illegal! You can torrent stuff that's not copyright :)

The people who fix laptops are paid by their customers, not the television companies.

And seriously, having done computer repairs etc -- the people doing it just do not want to know what media you have, it is irrelevant, privacy invasive (in a way that is probably illegal), not to mention possibly disturbing, to even find out.

I doubt this can lock anyone out completely who's keen to get at data, but I have a separate empty admin account set up that I give to repairers.

Then they have no excuse. If they go nosing around into my account, they're potentially accessing data that they well and truly shouldn't (other confidential stuff), so I really hope they don't, and might consider taking some sort of action if they did.

Without doing a lot of poking around that's illegal to do (at least here in the US, YMMV) they can't prove that the episodes aren't rips of stuff you already own, which is totally legal. And since you can use BitTorrent to download things which are not covered under copyright laws, then the mere presence of the program is not proof of illegal activity.
