Yeah, still sickly. I went to the doctor today and he's initially treating me for a possible stomach ulcer, and if I don't get better he's given me a referral for a CT at Bethesda. Not that scans have ever helped before.

I am really happy and hopeful for the future which I haven't been in a long time. I'm so proud that Obama came from my state and he gave his speech just 20 miles from where I live. It's my hope that Obama will be a great turning point for my country.

Well, hopefully you'll get the stomach ulcer thing sorted with, and if you can get that sorted, you can move onto any other things (if they're that bad at all).

I think it was the "Ask not what your country can do for you" of our time.

I can't say I know enough about American history and the context of JFK's speech so I won't comment. But I will add that McCain's concession speech surprised me just as much with how sincerly gracious it was. Either they breed pollies better up there or they're just better actors.

Oh, he showed more class in that short speech than he did his entire campaign, and that's a damned shame cause he seems, at his heart, under all the campaign crap, an okay guy.

I think the rest of the world is actually partying harder than America right now. There are some people within these states (a minority, to be sure) who are scared out of their minds right now that we're going to become some kind of Communist State, or that we'll be forced to convert to Islam. Or indeed both.

I, however, am not one of those people. I'm guardedly happy. (Guardedly because there's this whole gay marriage ban thing in my state that is not yet decided, and it pisses me off that the ban is currently winning.)

Oh, I'm worried about the gay marriage bans too.

I think the world is so glad to see the back of GW. Hopefully things will turn out well.

Weird thing. I viewed your recent lj posts in my friends list, and instead of the Barackroll I got the vid of you, Mum and Scotty celebrating Obama's win. And instead of the latter vid mentioned above, I got a H/Hr fan vid. FTW? Lol.

That's strange because my icon got mixed up before with a graphic of an anime cat. WEIRD.

A day when I genuinely wish I was American.

Party on!

Yeah, I hope so too, but I don't think Cameron is the answer. We don't really have a suitable liberal leader to fire up the British, which is sad. Well, there's still time for the Lib Dems to get their act together, but I'm not hopeful.

But I'm with you both on hoping for change!

IMO he is, but it's like there are two McCains and one is really cool and classy and the other lets himself be pushed around by party demands. And you can SEE the difference very quickly. After the Democratic National Convention when Obama accepted the nomination, McCain ran this really cool spot publically congratulating Obama- he said something like "tomorrow we will be at odds again, but for tonight, well done sir." It was one of the first moments where I was like "this guy is really all right." And by the end of the campaign I just started feeling sad for him in a way. I'm glad of this speech, because it's who he really is and he's getting a lot of really good cred for it among everyone, across party lines (and obviously across the world as well *lol*)

Yeah. It's a damned shame. I think it's another reason to say "Be true to who you are" cause generally, you'll get along better for it. If he'd just *been* the Maverick, he would have carried on the spirit of the Republicans of yore and not the short-sighted fear-riddled hicks of today. It's a shame.
