Oh, SERIOUSLY, I am so sick of the both of them! If it's not filling in every little piece of green space with developments and spending more money than they've got on train lines (while selling the land for the cars to park to USE those trains, mind), then it's bullshitting about the education system and shoving one's way back into the party and kicking out a woman who had worked hard to get to the position she got to.

When Barnett said that bit about there being 30 percent less students in government schools or whatever (I may have misremembered the figures), I wanted to punch the fucker right through my TV screen. GOD!!!

Actually, Barnett may not be *that* far off the mark. Many government schools, are losing student enrollments to the private schools, especially in areas that aren't well off.

There's some parents out there that go 'can't send my child to the government school, they're all losers there, have to send my child to a private school to get the absolute best'*. Of course this creates a self-fulling prophecy - the more able students are often more well behaved. Take that element out and the 'undesirable' element becomes more concentrated, stories get out about the school, more parents send their kids to private schools and so on and so forth.

It also doesn't help that it seems in the new housing developments that the first schools that get built are usually private schools, so some people will send their kids there for the sake of convenience.

I'm willing to put money on that if the private school near my school hadn't been built, my school's enrollments would be up a couple of hundred. When your school's only got a student population of about 550, a couple of hundred kids is a *big* difference. Not only do we miss out on those students, but we also end up getting the rejects from the private school coming to our school when they get kicked out.

*And if the government schools had half the funding and the ability to cherry-pick who went to that school, we'd be as 'good' too.
