What amuses me about Hermione at the Yule Ball is that it wasn't her eventual love interest that noticed how hot she was, it was Harry! I see that as JKR shooting herself in the foot with the POV she picked for the novel. *sigh*
I bought into that bullshit in a big way in high school and it pisses me off. I always tell my nieces, "You're beautiful with or without make-up. I think you're so gorgeous you don't really need it." I try to lead by example and don't gussy myself up unless it's a party. Cause really - make-up makes me ill. I don't wear it unless I have to.
