logansrogue: (Doc Got Back!)

Okay dudes. This is the post to do it.

TALK GEEKY TO ME! Talk about the DOCTOR! :D I want to talk about what you think of the season so far, of the last episode, of how the season is going. But please:

- No spoilers. If you know what's coming, I don't want to know. I know a few things but I don't want details. I'm enjoying thoroughly the week-by-week adventure.
- No Martha bashing. I really do like her.

Go crazy! :D

I haven't seen the 2006 Xmas special, let alone season 3!

One thing I will comment on in regards to new Who is that I love how they've subtly transformed the character to become romantic without sexualising him at the same time.

Sexualising the Doctor would ruin him IMO. But I love the gushy emotional romantic love he expresses for thing (notably Rose). Romance not sex. Really, really cool.

I can imagine how much off a piss off it is for RTD (my brain always sounds that phonetically as RUTUD, which sounds like Retard) to have to hold back in that way. I think he made Torchwood just to let out all the mojo that had been building up and that's why the first few episodes were constant sexing.

Why are you depriving yourself of Ten goodness? I'm using my last megabytes in my download months for heem!

Cause I can't stand watching TV shows on my computer, and am getting old enough that I suddenly have patience to not see Doctor Who as soon as it's broadcast.

Ahhh. That's how I am with Numb3rs, oddly enough. But that's more of a ritual perve-fest thing than anything else.

My eyesight is crap these days, so watching things on TV isn't that fun anymore.

Regarding the latest episode: Broadway and Doctor in the same place! That does it for me! Not sure what I think about the evolving daleks- not completely convinced yet, but I'll see next week.

I like Martha as well and loved the HP references in The Shakespeare Code. I think this season so far is better than last season.

Something I realised today, after watching that episode at your place: while I quite enjoy watching the show (even if it isn't a big favourite or anything), I find that the "next time on Doctor Who" preview thingy at the end of each episode completely kills any desire I have to watch the next one. They just make it looks so .... stupid. They certainly manage to write good TV, but they really suck at previews.

Having not watched enough of the show to form a proper opinion on anything especially important like, you know, content, I'll just leave you with that :)

Oh, it was a good ep, wasn't it? I'm unsure too, mainly cause I grew up watching the Daleks in their funny compost-bin bodies (our compost bins look like Daleks!) and their funny lights and angling pokie things. :( RTD, you bastard.

I adore Martha, she's awesome. Alert and really very sharp, she figures shit out. Makes her good for exposition, really. She's sweet, too! And she has SUCH a great arse!

The HP refs cracked me up so much. :D

Oh, that's previews for you. I ignore them generally other than trying to get an idea of what next week's episode is about. Problem with you is that you're too discerning. I'll accept nearly any old crap that's thrown at me as long as it has David Tennant running around in his spunky outfit.

You should see it all! It's a fun watch! :D (And it's got a busty blonde with buck teeth running through and being awesome for the first two seasons - surely you can get behind that! LOL!)

I'm the sort of person who gets pretty excited over previews (particularly movie trailers, but that's a bit different), and a good preview can totally win me over in the decision of to-watch-or-not-to-watch. But the Doctor Who ones (that I've seen at least) are just terrible.

It's certainly on my list of stuff I should check out, along with at least a dozen other established series. I've only caught about ten episodes of the Eccleston/Tennant series, but I've liked them all. Now that SwanCon is over I've got a lot more spare time for undertakings like that :P

There's only one busty blonde for me! But Rose does seem to be a big fan-favourite, but every account I've seen. Martha seems like a cool companion, too.

The thing one has to accept about Doctor Who from the get-go is that it's cheese central. It's got a rich history of ridiculousness going back forty years. Sure, the new Doctor Who is new with cool effects but it's still the BBC making it :D

Awww. I like the cut of your jib, good sir. Give that busty blonde a boff in the head with a pillow from me.

A lot of people are backlashing against Martha cause RTD is too fucking eager for people to like her. Thankfully the character is good enough to grow and break free of the pre-season puff-up. I've thoroughly enjoyed her so far, but I like brainy, dark-haired girls with brown eyes and cute bums :D

I thought I'd miss Rose more than I do. Martha has been written cool enough to take over, and now when I watch seasons one and two on DVD, I begin understanding what the Rose-bashers were on about. At the time, I loved how their romance was played out, but now I start to think those two hugged a little too often. Every tiny peril and she was in for the hugs. I still appreciate that Nine and Ten have sexualities and it brings fun things into the modern show, but I also think there's a charm in his asexuality. (Doctor/Tardis OTP) I was thrilled to see Jack kiss Ten, but the other night Doctor told that New York kid he could kiss him too. Mostly funny, but David put some seriousness in the delivery that had me raising an eyebrow! Even Shakespeare had his slash on!

I think the writers have also done a fabulous job bringing in so many other fandoms to the show. The kind of people who love this show likely love other shows and to bring in those references gets us invested and highly amused.

I do not like the evolved Daleks at all. They are getting over-used and unless there's some good reason this story line couldn't have waited until later in the season, I think it's too soon to bring them in again. We need to soon see Martha start to fret that every trip equals peril and aside from her overtly trying to get into his knickers, we have no reason for that character to be compelled into danger. Rose felt like she had nothing worth staying for (*and reminded us and those that loved her constantly of it.) But Martha seems to have a job future and a large family (*despite the weak presence of parental warfare) as-is, she would go Runaway Bride on him and tell him that he's mental and nobody should want a life like that. So I do hope we soon see more compelling reasons why someone as cool as Martha is willing to risk her life so frequently. It would give us some flawed human connection to her, besides this MarySue-ish "Oh look how cool and smart and beautiful and flirty and clever Martha is! Rose who?"

I loved that Rose was a bitch to Mickey. And I don't think all good girls stay attached to their mothers. Rose had flaws and she was a super-stalker to the Doctor. Maybe this companion needs to be less clingy and he should be the other chasing HER? Begging or bargaining for her to please stay with him just a little while longer ... *giggle*

I think they'll do more with Martha once they get over her newness and the new companion angst (as I said to someone else in another comment).

I like the idea of the Doctor begging her to stay. Bwahahaha. :D

I loved the second episode of this season - witches and Shakespeare and magic, oh my.

But Daleks again so soon? And once again the last four in the galaxy turning up on Earth? Please, something fresh!

And yeah, Martha's fine. (The comments about the Doctor being on the rebound in ep 3 were classic!) I liked the bride better though :)

The Bride was pretty cool, and I liked that she was older and not so fresh and young, but I think she might have gotten on my nerves after a while.

Grant had some interesting ideas for old style bad guys, I don't remember where I talked to him about it, though.
