Okay. So I'm doing my first bit of Dune fanart. I am that into it. I've had to pause reading Dune Messiah cause I don't have a copy of Children of Dune and I don't like not having more Dune to read. Mum got Heretics of Dune out from the library but that's no good - I need to read Children of Dune first.

Anyway. So. The art. To me, dear hunky sexy Kyle McLachlan will always be Paul Atreides. The dude they got for the miniseries is a ferret-faced dweeb compared to Kyle. So I'm drawing Kyle a bit older than he was in the movie Dune, on the desert, in the wind. Paul said it was very comic book. (My brother Paul, not Paul Atreides!)

I'm fretting that I already drew a picture of Harry Potter that has the vague same composition. But it IS the classic comic hero pose! So anyway - I've started. It's not finished. Under the cut is my progress, so you get to see how I start a picture. Well - THIS picture. I've never painted like this before.



This is how it looked before I had to revert cause I was colouring in on the wrong fucking layer. All that is in Painter.


This is the line-work done yet again. It's temporary linework - you won't really see it in the final.


This is me starting to colour it in in Photoshop. I've tried colouring him in in Painter but I just can't get the same subtleties in it cause I suck and don't know how to get the right sort of paintbrush. I will never be an uber-cool artist.

It's a part of the outfit. He's wearing a stillsuit, and they've got this tubular outing. The way they did it in the Dune Movie is pretty skeletal.

I like it. I hope you get to finish them soon. Oh, BTW, Dune Messiah isn't as good as Children of Dune. :P It's sort of depressing. I'd love to hear your thoughts on either of the Dune books when you're done reading, or even as you're reading them.

I have many of the books (including Children), if you need to borrow it. But you have to wait for D, because he's currently doing a reread and he's right now reading Children. I think he's close to finished, though.
