OH CanadAAAAAH!
Jul. 2nd, 2007 01:49 pmHappy Canada Day, Canada. I view Canada as kind of a sibling-state, a fellow Commonwealth country. And New Zealand is our funky twin. We're a lot alike to everyone else but we're constantly saying how different we are.
Anyway, I wanted to express my love for a country that has brought us, above all things, William Shatner. THANK you.

Beautiful Day
Jul. 2nd, 2007 02:12 pmDad and I were driving along the coast on the way home. These are my favourite moments with my Dad. The highway, the sea, the sky, and us talking to each other about nice things. I've usually just got money from the government so he's not giving me a hard time. We always stop being aggro when the beach is going past.
The sea is a churning, blue-grey fury. It's just gorgeous. Two metre waves, white caps, the breakers going about a hundred metres into the shallows. All white until the shallows end. We drove to Cottesloe Beach and watched the waves crash over the jetty. So wild and beautiful. And the sky - bright blue peeking out between climbing cumulus clouds. Absolutely breathtaking in combination with the ocean. The wind was beating the grasses on the dunes, the seagulls were having a field day getting fresh nibbles washed up on the shore. And then the sun broke through the clouds, lighting up a little patch of breakers, blinding white against moody blue-grey.
Absolutely gorgeous. I went out there - I had a good parker on so I was fine. I just stood there, breathing in the fresh sea air. Sweet, cool and clean, rushing in right off the ocean. Nearly knocked me over, it was invigorating. Dad didn't like it, though, he wanted to go back in the car. Couldn't breathe. I could have stayed there for ages. I was warm and in my element. :)
I love the ocean. I could sink into the beach and never leave. I wondered what it would be like to be on a tall ship during all this. Heads over the sides, no doubt! Chum time for the fishies! Could you imagine the rush to fold the sails? The ropes beating against the masts? People huddled in the hull and wishing they were on land? Would anyone be on deck thinking, "God, the sea is pretty when it's like this"? Probably not! :D
As soon as the weather gets good again and winter's over, I'm going to needle Dad about taking out the boat. My health is much better, I reckon I could manage it by then. I want to be on the water again!

A Song for Jack
Jul. 2nd, 2007 05:03 pmI keep thinking of Jack Harkness when I hear this song. Don't ask me why.
( Happy Jack - The Who )
~~
I think it's the "Happy Jack wasn't old, but he was a man" and "The kids couldn't hurt Jack, they tried tried tried" bit. And that's it. The rest is really pretty silly. LOL!
