SurveyFail: The Good Stuff
So if you're a fandom woman like myself, you'll have noticed the big hullabaloo about a certain survey by
ogi_ogas, and the complete wrathful destruction of that survey by better educated, less fuckwitted fandom fen. If you missed it, you can catch up here. It's pretty entertaining reading.
It started out not so entertaining, but here's where it gets awesome: Fandom said NO. Feminists, LBQTI folk, scientists, and those smart enough to know when they're being used, all came together and said "GET THE FUCK OUT."
It kinda warms the cockles of my heart to see something like this so soundly rejected and exposed for the shoddy, lazy, sexist, heteronormative crap that this is. Usually this sort of thing makes newspapers and then people start gabbing about it around coolers at work. "Did you hear about that book about net porn? Women are just SO much more deeper and emotional than men!" Etc, etc, and horrible, limiting, terrible generalisations are absorbed into the communal knowledge of humanity, regardless of the fact that it's complete and utter unsubstantiated dog shit.
And Fandom, beautiful, chaotic, angry, wild Fandom, could not be tamed like a cow and milked. No fucking way.
I've been friending a lot of people since this happened, mainly because they seem like awesome people and we have some fandoms in common. So if I've added you - hey, hi! I like the cut of your jib and would love to have you on my flist. Let's network, and make sure that our community is strong and increasingly awesome. :) If you're wondering who I am, I'm a fan artist and budding novelist, comic book writer/artist and all round fan geek. You can see some of my work at http://napalmnacey.deviantart.com if you're curious.
Sometimes, activism works. And when it does, I am very pleased indeed.

I read some of the stuff and it was amazing. Fandom sometimes - just sometimes - RULES.

Hey, guess what! I had a dream about you! We were hanging out together! I wanted to go to the UK to stay with you, but for some reason, you wanted to see Perth in the dream. I was planning my trip to the UK, thinking of all the places I wanted to see, and then I realised in the dream that I really, really wanted to see some Beatles landmarks. Which, now that I think about it, yes, it would be on the list of "Must see while I'm there". As well as Stone 'Enge. Anyway, the dream slipped into this weird fantasy land thing, I think it was related to - no, I'm pretty sure it was related to that RPG I was telling you about. Had to go into an alternate evil horrible universe. Was a very horrible place. We had to fight the Predator. Aang from Avatar helped. Those aren't even my Toys at the RPG. So weird.

I hope we won the fight.
I've never been to Liverpool, despite living about an hour away for two years... so WHEN you come here, we will ABSOLUTELY GO THERE. Stone'nge... I haven't actually been onto the site, but the awful A303 road cuts SO close to it and it's not so much with the epic brilliance. Avebury, on the other hand, is apparently very nice.
