It doesn't mean what I think you think it means...

WASHINGTON — A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist dictatorship.

I... Ah... Well... Erm...

o_O

No, seriously. How can you be in congress and not know the basic layout of different political ideologies? I mean, I FAILED History repeatedly in school and consistently slept through our units on the second world war (I blame channel nine running Star Trek TNG episodes at 11 at night). I still know that one of those things is NOT like the other.

Dear GOD. It frightens me people actually voted that idiot into office.

i would blame Mr Weston not star trek *haha*

[identity profile] logansrogue.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, yeah Mr. Weston had this knack of somehow making one of the most dramatic and tragic eras in history into a dead fucking bore. Had a nice conversation with him about HG Wells once, though. And I liked his silly silver car.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

...Wait, that's NOT from the Chaser? o.O

*sobs* No!

Just because the Gestapo operated under a facist government doesn't mean 'Gestapo like' would have to relate to that. He could have (and probably) meant that Obama would use secret police tactics of fear and intimidation to impose a Marxist like dictatorshoip.
Rather than jump on his ise of historical similies why don't we laugh at the idea of Obama being compared to Nixon?

[identity profile] annearchy.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Or of Obama being compared to George W. Bush, who has been merrily spying on his own citizens for at least the last 5 years.

Seriously, this Congressman from Georgia? Is a right-wing nutjob. The rightwingers really hate that Obama draws large, passionate crowds, from which they make the highly illogical leap that Obama is a future Hitler. Obama taught Constitutional law at the University of Chicago before he became a U.S. Senator (and while he was a part-time state senator in Illinois). In the last few days his transition team released an organizational chart of the U.S. federal government; it rightly places the Constitution at the top of the chart, where it belongs, and puts the executive branch (president, VP, government agencies) at the same level as the judicial and legislative branches. Unlike Bush, Obama understands that the three branches are co-equal and there's "one Constitution to rule them all". This cartoon speaks eloquently to what Obama will need to do the day he's sworn in.

Yes, and maybe the gestapo don't care about who they work for so long as they get to smash in heads.

Obama isn't that bad.

<_<

>_>

Don't call our glorious marxist dictator an idiot. The gestapo don't approve of that sort of thing. ;)

Oh god. Out of 435 representatives, the one who represents my district makes it on everyone's blog, including an Australian's.

I'm so, so sorry! We in Athens-Clarke, a left-leaning college town got grouped into a new congressional district with a bunch of Appalachian white-bread hicks because the Republicans took control of the Georgia state legislature in 2004 and gerrymandered us into complete irrelevance. And now we're the laughingstock of the world because Bobby Saxon couldn't beat that idiot because none of the local Democrats had any faith in Bobby because we all knew he couldn't win because it's the 10th fucking district filled with barely literate and hateful inbred hillbillies and AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHGGGHHH, I HATE YOU REPUBLICANS FOR PUTTING ME IN THE SAME DISTRICT AS THESE IDIOTS!!! HATE YOU HATE YOU HATE YOUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!

*cry*

Uh. Sit down and STFU, man. :( (I'm talking to the senator, not you.)

A frightening number also think socialism = communism, and also think health care = socialism therefore = communism...

I don't know, when I was in high school we were actually taught political systems, but I guess to each their own!

[identity profile] logansrogue.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
It frightens me how many people look down on the idea of everyone, regardless of their financial situation, should have access to health care. It's one of the most basic signs of a successful civilisation. I mean, even the bloody Egyptians looked after their workers that built the friggin' pyramids. Oh that's right, they're middle eastern. Don't want to be like the ay-rabs.

[identity profile] girlguitarist.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, now the Ay-rabs are communist!
