Happy songs = Happy time!

If anyone saw the show "The Human Brain" that's just been on the ABC for the past month on a Thursday night, they could tell you that if you listen to happy music, watch happy movies and read positive things, you'll be in a better mood. It seems blatantly obvious, doesn't it? People usually don't realise what an impact the music we listen to has on us.

Anyway, I thought, "I wonder what other people listen to to be happy?" And I also thought, "I have heaps of happy songs that I listen to. I should share them and see if anyone else likes them."

So here I am. Sharing the happy!

My Top Ten Happy Songs:

10. The Sunny Side of the Street - Judy Garland
9. Crazy On You - Heart
8. Sweet Talkin' Woman - ELO
7. Underwater Love - Smoke City
6. Turn To Stone - ELO
5. I Can See For Miles - The Who
4. The Charleston - Green Hill Instrumental version
3. I Believe In You - Kylie Minogue
2. Groove Is In The Heart - Deeelite
1. Mr. Blue Sky by ELO

I know, I know - there's a lot of ELO on there. But they make really good happy music! :)

Ironically, I'm having an "I Want To Kill All You Bitches In Your Sleep" kind of day -- I wonder if there's music for that?

I don't know why these rages take me, but I just put on some headphones and do my work with extra force, because it usually works itself out. I feel like if any of my coworkers try talking to me today though, I will imagine punching them right in the face. :-)

I usually listen to Garbage at that point. :) And radiohead.

I listen to the two Traveling Wilburys albums. Has almost never failed.

Groove is in the Heart is my all time best happy song. It's not a good night unless they play that somewhere.

It's the "Guaranteed to get Nacey on the dance floor" song. I fucking LOVE it. I've played it repeatedly since it came out and I'm STILL. NOT. SICK OF IT!

Do a search for music AND mood at pubmed.gov and you can see the hundreds of scientific papers that have been published on the subject over the past few decades. It's really interesting to read about. One study even found that listening to some cheerful music not only improved mood but also immune system function.

2. Groove Is In The Heart - Deeelite

That's one of my all-time happy favourites too!!!

I have no idea what any of those songs are but my favourite happy bands are Smash Mouth followed by The Barenaked Ladies.
