It doesn't mean what I think you think it means...

WASHINGTON — A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist dictatorship.

I... Ah... Well... Erm...

No, seriously. How can you be in congress and not know the basic layout of different political ideologies? I mean, I FAILED History repeatedly in school and consistently slept through our units on the second world war (I blame channel nine running Star Trek TNG episodes at 11 at night). I still know that one of those things is NOT like the other.

Dear GOD. It frightens me people actually voted that idiot into office.

Just because the Gestapo operated under a facist government doesn't mean 'Gestapo like' would have to relate to that. He could have (and probably) meant that Obama would use secret police tactics of fear and intimidation to impose a Marxist like dictatorshoip.
Rather than jump on his ise of historical similies why don't we laugh at the idea of Obama being compared to Nixon?

Or of Obama being compared to George W. Bush, who has been merrily spying on his own citizens for at least the last 5 years.

Seriously, this Congressman from Georgia? Is a right-wing nutjob. The rightwingers really hate that Obama draws large, passionate crowds, from which they make the highly illogical leap that Obama is a future Hitler. Obama taught Constitutional law at the University of Chicago before he became a U.S. Senator (and while he was a part-time state senator in Illinois). In the last few days his transition team released an organizational chart of the U.S. federal government; it rightly places the Constitution at the top of the chart, where it belongs, and puts the executive branch (president, VP, government agencies) at the same level as the judicial and legislative branches. Unlike Bush, Obama understands that the three branches are co-equal and there's "one Constitution to rule them all". This cartoon speaks eloquently to what Obama will need to do the day he's sworn in.

Yes, and maybe the gestapo don't care about who they work for so long as they get to smash in heads.
