Dear Miss Nacey,

I was most surprised and pleased to receive your letter, expressing great admiration for the discoveries I, my sister and my brother-in-law have made in Egypt, as well as your sympathy for the strange adventures we suffered through to bring them to the scholars of the Western world. I say 'we' - but I can tell you in private confidence that it was mainly I who brought us through those terrible experiences.

Should you ever find yourself in London, please do not hesitate to call upon me at O'Connell House. I would be delighted to elaborate further on those events, for certain details simply could not be published in a credible scientific journal. Nor can I bring my pen to describe them, as they were so terrifying! My poor sister even now cannot bear to speak of them without her husband present to support her. Nevertheless, I would be glad to share the story with an understanding female ear.

Yours sincerely,

Jonathan Carnahan
